This website will enable users to access all insurance jurisprudence (i.e. CUBs (Canadian Umpire Benefits), Federal Court and Supreme Court decisions). The site provides:

  • access to non-departmental selections of significant decisions;
  • access to HRSDC's selections of significant decisions;
  • extended search of all CUBs, Federal Court and Supreme Court decisions;
  • the full text of these decisions;
  • all decisions that have been translated;
  • print capability;
  • a keyword search process.

The database contains jurisprudence established over a period of more than 60 years on U.I./E.I. matters and has been created by converting all of the jurisprudence from paper to electronic format. A search engine allows a user to carry out keyword searches in this huge repository of decisions.

The home page menu provides a basic search capability capability limited to the independently selected significant decisions within the collection. One can also search by issue on these selected decisions. This ensures a more efficient retrieval of pertinent decisions and excludes cases that only mention a particular issue in passing.

Users who want to access the entire jurisprudence should link to the extended search page. It is expected that the presentation will improve the visual understanding of the search options available to the user.

The search engine that supports this initiative makes use of more intuitive search operators. These are identified in the Help section of the search pages.
